Why a Second-Hand Bike Trailer or Ski Sled / Pulk Can Be a Smart Choice
At Nordic Cab, we support reuse and view it as a testament to the quality of our products. A second-hand bike trailer or ski sled (pulk) remains highly sought after, easy to resell, and retains excellent value if your family no longer needs it.
Even if your children have outgrown it, the trailer can still serve as an exceptional cargo carrier or pulk for your adventures. 😊
It’s worth noting that while the design hasn’t drastically changed over the years, our products have undergone significant improvements to enhance functionality and durability.
Important Considerations When Buying Used
For the safety of your children, we do not recommend purchasing models older than 10 years for child use. Details on discontinued models such as Active and Urban can be found at the end of this article.

How to Check Safety and Wear on a Used Bike Trailer or Ski Sled
Bike Trailer Hitch and Tow-Bar
- Ensure the bike attachment is intact and free of excessive rust.
- The locking pin securing the hitch should spring and lock securely.
- Safety wires must be undamaged and rust-free.
- The flexible hitch joint should feel firm without excessive movement. If it feels loose, there may be internal damage, and the hitch should be replaced.
- The locking bolt securing the hitch to the trailer box should spring and lock properly, with the pin end visible on the outside.
- Recommendation: Replace the hitch and bike attachment after 10 years or upon visible wear/damage.
Wheels
- Check that the locking bolts work and the wheels are securely attached.
- Ensure wheels do not tilt inward at the top, as this could indicate frame overloading or damage.
Frame
- Inspect the frame for cracks or breakage.
Identifying Model Year Groupings
Refer to the detailed guide at the end of the article for key features of different model years.
2016-2020
The height of the trailer was increased in 2016 and Explorer was equipped with a parking brake.
Colour: red.
Unique characteristic: equipped with a parking brake, as on prams.
2010-2015:
A number of important upgrades were made to the trailer in 2010.
With normal wear and tear, this remains a good trailer even today and the online store still stocks plenty of accessories and spare parts.
Colour: red, blue and yellow.
Unique characteristic: curved vertical zipper along the side of the rear frame.
2006-2009
Nordic Cab launched in 2006 and this is the oldest series.
As it is more than ten years old and there have been major changes to the safety standards for bike trailers in this time, we do not recommend buying second-hand products from this period for use with children. It can be difficult to recognise wear and tear and any damage from use that may have occurred. If the trailer is in good condition, it can still be used to transport shopping. There are limited parts available that fit.
Colour: red, blue and yellow.
Unique characteristic: Horizontal zipper under the edge of the window on the side. The very first series does not have a side zipper.
