Hvordan koble en sykkelvogn til en sykkel
Attaching a bike trailer to your bicycle might seem straightforward, but with the variety of modern bike designs, the process can be a bit more complex. In this article, we’ll guide you through the general steps and considerations for attaching a bike trailer to your bike, regardless of the trailer brand or bike type.
Step 1: Understand the Trailer’s Attachment Mechanism
Most bike trailers, whether from brands like Thule, Hamax, Burley, Croozer, Qeridoo, Nordic Cab, or others, use a similar attachment mechanism. This typically involves a steel bracket that attaches to the left rear frame of the bike’s rear axle. The trailer then connects to this bracket. The bracket is usually small and can remain attached to your bike even when you’re not using the trailer. This makes the connection quick and easy. If multiple bikes are using the trailer, it’s also practical to install brackets on them.
Step 2: Identify Your Bike’s Axle Type
Modern bikes come with various axle types, and it’s essential to identify which type you have:
5mm Quick Release (QR):

This is the most common type and the easiest to work with. It usually doesn’t require any special adapters. An additional advantage of adding a 5mm adapter is that the mount moves further away from the wheel, gears, and brakes, and the mount becomes more securely attached to the adapter compared to directly to the bike frame.

Bolt-On or Solid Axle:

Slightly more complicated but still relatively easy to handle. This comes in several versions for different bolt sizes and threads.
- Bike Trailer Adapter – Shimano Internal Hub (3/8” x 26) – Universal
- Shimano Nexus Shimano Alfine og Shimano Coasting. 3/8” x 26
- Bike Trailer Adapter – Solid Axle M10 x 1.0 Thread – Universal Fit
- Rohloff, Enviolo, Shimano Nexave, SRAM I-Motion, and SRAM Torpedo.
- M12x1.25
- Rad Power bike or Mahle/EBIKEMOTION Equipped E-Bikes.
Thru-Axle:

The most common on newer bikes. This type can be more challenging, as there are many designs and variants. Thru-axles require specific adapters to attach the trailer securely.

Step 3: Determine Your Bike’s Dropout Type
Note: If you’ve determined that you have a thru-axle, this step doesn’t apply to you. Your bike’s dropout type will also affect how the trailer’s bracket attaches. The two main types of dropouts are:
Standard Dropout: Usually easy to attach a bike trailer to.

Hooded Dropout: May require an adapter to ensure a secure mounting.

Step 4: Find the Right Adapter for the Trailer’s Bracket
If your bike requires an adapter, it’s crucial to choose the right one to ensure a safe and secure mounting. Nordic Cab offers the largest selection of universal adapters, ensuring compatibility with almost any bike.

Improved Safety with the Right Adapter
Using the correct adapter not only ensures your bike trailer is securely attached but also improves the overall safety of your bike-and-trailer setup. A properly installed adapter keeps the trailer aligned and reduces wear on both the bike and the trailer.
With the right setup, you’ll enjoy a smoother, safer, and more comfortable ride with your bike trailer.
